Join us for a gallery talk with exhibiting artist Margaret Inga Urías in conversation with artist and curator Richard Klein on October 26th. Urias’s solo exhibition Of Cloud & Ash: Eons, Epochs, and Eras, is on view at DVAA from September 21st to October 27th. Urías and Klein will explore a range of themes that permeate her work including research on planetary geology, evolutionary biology, and cosmology.

ABOUT MARGARET INGA URÍAS
Margaret Inga Urías is an interdisciplinary artist based in Scarsdale, NY, whose practice encompasses drawing, murals, photography, and glass engraving. Her work is deeply rooted in exploring the concepts of time, evolution, and the cosmos, often reflecting on the transient and fragile nature of existence. Urías has received several prestigious awards, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. She holds degrees from Barnard College and Pratt Institute and has participated in residencies at the Saltonstall Foundation and the Bronx Museum of Art’s AIM program. Her work has been exhibited widely, and she continues to push the boundaries of her practice, integrating research from planetary geology, evolutionary biology, and cosmology into her artistic explorations.

Richard Klein is a Connecticut-based artist, independent curator and writer. From 1999 to 2022 he was Exhibitions Director at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. In his more than two-decade long career as a curator he has organized over 80 exhibitions, including solo shows of the work of Janine Antoni, Sol LeWitt, Mark Dion, Roy Lichtenstein, Hank Willis Thomas, Brad Kahlhamer, Kim Jones, Jack Whitten, Jessica Stockholder, Tom Sachs, Elana Herzog. Major curatorial projects at The Aldrich have included Fred Wilson: Black Like Me (2006), No Reservations: Native American History and Culture in Contemporary Art (2006), Elizabeth Peyton: Portrait of an Artist (2008), Shimon Attie: MetroPAL.IS. (2011), Michael Joo: Drift (2014), Kay Rosen: H Is for House (2017), Weather Report (2019), Hugo McCloud: from where I stand (2021), Duane Slick: The Coyote Makes the Sunset Better (2022), and Prima Materia: The Periodic Table in Contemporary Art (2023).
