In this project, Director Peter DuBois seeks to rewrite LGBTQ+ history and contribute a new chapter to the queer canon. This project challenges prevailing narratives around gay life in NYC in the 1970’s by focusing on the times as a period of cultural explosion, joyful community building, and rambunctious fighting with city hall.

Filmmakers Brian Montopli & Aaron Hicklin are working on a documentary film about the life and words of Edmund White.
Edmund White’s words gave shape to queer freedom: explicit, unashamed, and alive with desire. In this intimate portrait, the novelist looks back on a life of transgression and tenderness – one that continues to redefine what it means to live queer and free today.
