“When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.”
– John Muir, My First Summer in the Sierra
Margaret Inga Urías’s series Of Cloud & Ash: Eons, Epochs, and Eras delves into the vastness of time through works on paper and glass. Drawing on research from planetary geology, evolutionary biology, and cosmology, Urías explores the origins and endings of the universe, and the interconnectedness of all things across time. This body of work contends with the fragility and impermanence of existence, seeking to map the passage of dust and rock through the evolution of Earth and the cosmos. Using black ink and a minimalist vocabulary of graphic dots, lines, and circles, Urías traces the cosmic cycles that define our reality, rendering the transition from nothingness to life and back again. Her work is a meditation on loss, the eerie nature of time, and the paradox of its vastness and brevity.
Margaret Inga Urías is an interdisciplinary artist based in Scarsdale, NY, whose practice encompasses drawing, murals, photography, and glass engraving.
