Artist Statement:
I divide my time between New York City and rural upstate New York, and my artwork shifts with each place. In the city, my forms often take on abstract human figures; upstate, they evolve into biomorphic shapes. Wherever I am, my artwork absorbs my environment’s textures, colors, and patterns.
Coddiwomple—a slang word meaning “to travel purposefully toward an unknown destination”—captures the spirit of my art and life. My process unfolds across printmaking, sculpture, and video. Prints become the foundation for sculptures, and sculptures transform into actors in my stop-motion animations. Using printed paper, clay, pigments, and sand, sculptures grow through layering, burying, and uncovering. They then transform into actors in my stop-motion animations.
The process generates imagined artifacts of transformation that trace how we move, adapt, and carry our environments within us. Whether rooted or wandering, we are always in motion—reshaping ourselves and the world.
