GREGORY CURRY | Between Something and Nothing

Sep 21, 2019 - Oct 05, 2019
“They’re a bit like lurching forward into the future, not sure what you’ll find,” explains Curry. “They are painted not to see the future, but to recognize our present.”

The paintings engender new atmospheres that still seem familiar. They are not exactly abstract, not exactly landscapes, and not exactly figurative. Some details may look recognizable, but that’s not Curry’s aim.

About the Artist

Curry’s paintings have been exhibited at the Front Room Gallery, Brooklyn; Parkers Box, Brooklyn; Open Source Gallery, Brooklyn; Wall Space Gallery, NY; Tribe Gallery, NY; The Cooper-Hewitt National Museum, NY; Printed Matter, NY; Instituto Frances de Bilbao, Bilbao, Spain; Museum of Sex, NY; City Without Walls Gallery, Newark, NJ; and the Visual Arts Gallery, NY.

He was the recipient of a Francis Criss Purchase Award and received a full scholarship to the Skowhegan School of Painting. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA degree in painting. His work is in the collection of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
