Join us for a Gallery Opening for Glenn Lieberman’s photography exhibition, “Repossession: The Catskills,” on Saturday, June 15th from 4-6 pm.
The Catskill Mountains and surrounding areas, once bustling with vacation goers, faced a rapid decline starting in the 1970s. The resulting economic collapse left hundreds of structures and businesses to deteriorate without any intervention.
Repossession: The Catskills speaks of abandoned, forgotten places brought to decay for final reclamation by the earth: “for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
GLENN LIEBERMAN
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Glenn Lieberman began his adult life as a composer and purchased his first camera at about the same time. Since then, he has written what is commonly referred to as “classical” music, receiving a number of honors, among which, grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. During this time, he had simultaneously made photographs, primarily for his own enjoyment. However, in the past 15 years, a love of photography has produced a shift in concentration and a consistent record of photo production and exhibition. Lieberman splits his time between NYC and Northeast PA.
