Classical music is often divided into eras that define the age where composers lived and thrived. From the lavish ornamentation of the Baroque to the eclectic pluralism of 21st-century music, the arts have clear bookmarks in time where musicologists can categorize and define music. This is not the case for Beethoven; he lives in an era of his own. Trained through the Enlightenment yet always wearing his heart on his sleeve, Beethoven is neither purely classical nor romantic, but a blend of the two which shaped the standard for every composer who followed.

The Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra is proud to present a program that explores this evolution through his three distinct compositional periods: early, middle, and late.
