Opening Reception “Secondhand Advice” – A Community Art Exhibit Featuring Joe Poon
Join us for the next installment of our Community Art Exhibit, “Secondhand Advice”, featuring Joe Poon, an artist who resides in Sullivan County.
Joe Poon is a Chinese American conceptual artist, video poet, and art educator, whose work explores identity, memory, language, and learning. He is currently an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at SUNY Sullivan, holds an MFA from Pratt Institute, and has a background in interdisciplinary artmaking. Poon teaches courses in design, digital media, and visual storytelling.
Rooted in personal experience and cultural inheritance, Poon’s art invites reflection and emotional connection. A husband and father of three, he draws inspiration from nature and everyday life, believing in art’s power to connect, heal, and spark joy. Poon is also deeply interested in how people learn from mistakes, each other, and from the quiet wisdom embedded in the world around them.
