Opening Reception: Allison Maletz | Abundance
Please join us in the Loft Gallery of DVAA in Narrowsburg, Saturday, February 11th, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, as we celebrate the opening of Allison Maletz’s exhibition, Abundance — on view through March 26th, 2023.
An artist talk is scheduled for March 18th, details to come.
Allison Maletz presents a series of watercolor paintings celebrating the thriving wild ecosystem in Sullivan County. These life-size watercolors depict the plethora of native flora and fauna, along with its pests and invasive species, which complete our gardens, public spaces, and conversations.
Maletz’ style teeters on the edge of botanical observations while embracing all the nuances and possibilities of her medium: watercolor. These paintings are her effort to convey gratitude – to the land, the creatures, this place – through all its complexities.
Allison Maletz is a contemporary mixed-media artist living and working between Barryville and New York City. She received her BFA from the RISD and her MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Maletz is a Professor of Drawing at Marymount Manhattan College and teaches watercolor and drawing classes online through 92nd St Y, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Lessonface. Her first New York City solo show, “Together,” was at the Christopher Henry Gallery in 2013. Other notable exhibitions include the Liverpool Biennial, Zoo Art Italy, The Royal Watercolor Society in London, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the National Arts Club, the Denny Gallery, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Fresh Window, and the Florence Griswold Museum.
