On Belonging

Join us for this special performance of four original plays written by local playwrights, each exploring a different response to the idea of “belonging” (or not) in a particular place and time.

In April 2024, local writers were invited by Standing People Together Theatre to submit 15-minute plays that explored the theme of belonging. Four plays were selected, rehearsed, and refined through a series of public rehearsal workshops.

ABOUT THE PLAYS

Tiffany Esteb’s Diner, choreographs three waitresses through a surrealistic landscape of repetitive frenetic activity and anti-immigrant hate.

Cynthia Nash’s The Crossing, weaves together multiple generational narratives, which span time and the private memories of life in, on, and around the Skinners Falls Bridge.

Greg Thomas’s The Birthday List, explores the loving but fragile relationship between two longtime friends as one of them transitions from man to woman.

Laura Moran’s The Cathedral, explores the tension between a lifetime building a traditional dream, then sacrificing it so others may live.

Waste for Life supports educational and community strategies that actively facilitate systemic environmental and social justice change. Our recently launched program, "Standing People Together", emerges from observations working alongside many threatened communities throughout the world, of the need for a critical reconnection of people to people and people to nature. Our Forest Exploratorium, based on our home site of Cala Munda, in Hankins, NY, provides nature-based play and learning for children, professional development for teachers, and a retreat to explore environmentally just alternatives that foreground these connections.
