Maritime Music, Past and Present: From Sea Shanties to Jimmy Buffett

Hurleyville, NY – Grammy-winner Rick Nestler and classically trained musician Donna Nestler have been playing together professionally for over 20 years in a variety of traditional genres, including skiffle, blues, country, folk, and maritime. Both are multi-instrumentalists who play guitars, auto-harps, ukuleles and concertinas, among other instruments.
The duo brings their talents to the Sullivan County Museum on Sunday, November 5, where they will showcase Rick’s original tune, “The River That Flows Both Ways” – a song Pete Seeger loved so much he recorded it on his Grammy-winning album, “Tomorrow’s Children”! Donna and Rick have actually performed with Seeger as part of the Clearwater Folk Festival, and with many other notable musicians, including Tom Chapin, the Kennedys, Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, David Bernz, Guy Davis, Mike and Ruthy, and Rik Palieri.
The concert, presented by the Frederick Cook Society, will take place at the Museum, 265 Main Street, Hurleyville, on Sunday, November 5, at 2 p.m. Local band Little Sparrow will host the event and open the show.
