Katie Rose McLaughlin/Designated Movement Company JEST
JEST is an exploration of contemporary femininity, depression, moon cycles, overwhelming sense of impending doom, ritual and witchiness, the color blue, walking bass lines, uncomfortability, snow, and isolation. It’s deeply personal to Director & Choreographer Katie Rose McLaughlin — part her coming out story, part her struggles with an invisible disability, and part exploration of the four weeks she was locked in a government quarantine in South Korea and created an alter ego named Princess Quarantine.
Katie Rose McLaughlin is an Obie and Drama League Award-winning Director and Choreographer originally from Minneapolis, MN now based in NYC. She has performed with the Tony Award-winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune and as Esmeralda in several iterations of Redmoon Theater’s HUNCHBACK (New York Times Critics’ Pick).
A director and choreographer for theater, opera, film, music videos, and viral TikToks, she has also had the great pleasure of being the Associate Choreographer for the Tony Award-winning Broadway show Hadestown at New York Theater Workshop, Edmonton, South Korea, and Broadway, as well as the Associate Director/Choreographer of the First National Tour. Her work has been presented at Ars Nova, HERE Arts Center, Joe’s Pub, Under the Radar, La Mama, St. Anne’s Warehouse, Abrons Arts Center, Target Margin, The New Ohio, BRIC, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Williamstown, and The Connelly.
