How to Make a Canoe from Scratch

On Saturday July 13th at 11 AM the Liberty Public Library will present ‘How to Make a Canoe . . . from Scratch’ presented by Callicoon Center resident Doug Woods.
A number of years ago, Doug Woods saw a beautiful hand-made canoe and thought ‘someday I want to make one of those’. So, when his nephew announced his engagement, Doug decided a canoe would make the perfect wedding gift. He watched videos, read books, and spoke to boat builders. Then he got underway . . . not exactly knowing that it would take over his life, his home, and his family!
Woods will show photos of the process, talk about what he learned along the way, answer questions, and give tips and advice for anyone interested in making their own (be aware, you’ll need a few months!). The 16-foot canoe (on loan from the newlyweds) will be on display.
This free presentation will be held at the Liberty Public Library at 189 North Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754. For more information, please call the library at (845)292-6070, email lib@rcls.org or visit libertypubliclibrary.org . Event registration is encouraged.
