EARTH ECHOES Exhibition at WCAA
The Wayne County Arts Alliance is excited to announce the opening of a new art exhibition: EARTH ECHOES April 3-May 3 at the WCAA Gallery 959 Main Street Honesdale PA. Join us on April 5 for an Artist Talk at 3pm followed by the Opening Reception 5-8pm.
Naomi Teppich, curator of this exhibition, would like to present the Wayne County audience with unique views of nature as experienced by four artists: Robyn Almquist, Pamela Casper, Naomi Teppich, and Alice Zinnes. These artists have been selected because of their talent, how they experience nature as it contends with climate change, and their political activism. Visual artists can help us with solving our ecological problems that we are faced with today, by first bringing them to our attention, and then inspiring creative solutions.
Robyn Almquist, who lives and works in Livingston Manor, NY paints trees and mountains and makes lenticular printings showing the change in the landscape from a calm scene to a raging wildfire. She often adds linoleum cut images collaged to her casein paintings.
Pamela Casper, based in Brooklyn, NY and Masonville, NY offers intricate pencil and charcoal drawings of tree branches and nests, oil and watercolor paintings, as well as abandoned three-dimensional nests in barbed wires and mixed media. She is fascinated by the subterranean life below the ground.
Naomi Teppich responds to mushrooms, both drawn and colored, and floral-like stoneware sculptural fungi. Her work beckons this organism to recycle our soils, enter symbiotic relationships with trees, and to save our forest environments. Her studio and home is in Damascus, PA.
Alice Zinnes, based in Brooklyn, NY and Milanville, PA, in her oil paintings and watercolors responds to myths and stories that transform mysterious worlds, where the boundaries between underworld and waking earth are traversable. Terror coexists with joy, and loss yields to renewal.
We are thrilled to present the art of these four artists. The exhibition EARTH ECHOES will be on display April 3 – May 3. The WCAA Gallery and Artisan Shop at 959 Main Street, Honesdale is open Thursdays thru Sundays 11am-4pm.
