Breaking the Frame at The Birdhouse Gallery

Opening Reception: Saturday, August 7, 5-7pm

The Birdhouse Gallery is a tiny gallery of miniature contemporary art located in Hancock NY and soon in Brooklyn NY. The gallery is on the street level and always viewable during daylight hours. This show will be installed from August 7 through September 3.

The Birdhouse Gallery is opening our 3rd group show on Friday August 6 featuring art in non-traditional shapes by these artists:

Sunny Chapman is an artist living in NYC and in Delaware County. Her work has exhibited extensively in the NYC area, and is represented by Pinkwater Gallery in Kingston NY, and by Curina Art in NYC. She is also the curator of The Birdhouse Gallery.

Joanne Lobotsky studied sculpture at the School of Visual Arts in New York City with Alice Aycock, Judy Pfaff, and Elizabeth Murray, where she graduated with a BFA cum laude. She also studied printmaking at the University of Colorado at Boulder and painting at the Art Students League of New York. Lobotsky draws on this diverse background to inspire and inform her artistic experimentation. She grew up in Rhinebeck, NY, lived in Boulder, CO and currently resides in the Bronx. Lobotsky just opened a solo show at Atlantic Gallery in NTC.

Christina Massey is a mixed media abstract artist using primarily repurposed materials to create her multi-dimensional paintings and sculptures. Her work has exhibited extensively in the NYC Metropolitan area and is included in several public and private collections.

Dennis Tomkins lives in upstate NY and in NYC, where his work has been widely shown. He was represented by the former Art 101 Gallery, and has work in collections in the US and Germany. Tomkins does not have a website or social media.

Jeanne Tremel is a visual artist who has shown her works throughout the NYC area, the US and abroad. Born in Minneapolis, her formal art education began at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota (BFA) and continued in Chicago at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (MFA). Later, at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, she earned a Certificate in Art Therapy. She has exhibited her work most recently at Court Tree Collective, Nancy Margolis Gallery, Pelham Art Center, David & Schweitzer Contemporary, Royal Society of American Art and Ground Floor Gallery. She considers herself an abstract painter at heart, switching between oil and mixed media flat work and sculptural wall & floor pieces, and installations, all made of collected materials. Jeanne has lived in Brooklyn for 26 years.

Kelsey Tynik is an interdisciplinary sculptor born in New Jersey. She has spent the last 6 years in Brooklyn and Queens and is now working toward her MFA at The University of Connecticut. She has shown in New York , NY at 601Artspace, In/Passing, and LoBo Gallery.  She has shown in Brooklyn, Queens, and Arkensas. Her most recent show is at Ely Center of Contemporary Art in New Haven, CT. Kelsey’s most recent press was with The Coastal Post focusing on Aesthetics at Play. Kelsey will attend The Studios at Mass MoCA this summer as an artist-in-residence.
