The C Word

Saturday, February 1, 2025

DVAA proudly opens its 2025 Salon Series with an intimate afternoon of story sharing and conversation, as three local women on different cancer journeys share their stories and discuss how to talk to people with cancer – The C Word.

How can we become comfortable talking about what gets spoken of in hushed tones and become able to embrace the uncomfortable? Using humor, candor, and collected wisdom Ramona Jan, Marla Puccetti and Teresa Tulipano bring us into halls of a select “club” that no one wants to be a part of yet is one that we all enter – directly or indirectly – at some point in our lives.

Ramona Jan is a multi-media artist, musician, storyteller, songwriter, and humorist. Her column Ramona’s Ramblings appears weekly in the Sullivan County Democrat. She was initially diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer in 2018 and is currently in palliative care at both St. Luke’s Hospital and Hematology and Oncology of NE Pennsylvania.

Teresa Tulipano is a writer, storyteller, artist and teacher who lives in the Catskills.  She is a DVAA 2024 Individual Artist Grantee in Literature.  In 2024 she taught LGBTQIA+ Storytelling at Catskill Art Space on the theme of Queer Love.  She performs regularly with Yarnslingers, a Catskills storytelling group. Teresa teaches pop culture-inspired writing classes, and generative writing clinics throughout the Catskills.

Following years in television production, Marla Puccetti and her husband chef Paul Nanni opened The Heron Restaurant in 2012 a Narrowsburg mainstay.
